Travel Cup Recommendations

I'm looking for a travel cup for hot drinks. I'd like one that doesn't leak so I can put it (with drink) in the backpack if required. It would be nice if it's not hot to hold, and can keep the drink hot for sometime. Dishwasher safe would be a bonus. Capacity about 300-500ml.

While we're at it I'm also looking for a reusable cup/bottle for bubble tea. Thanks.

  • I have this one and I highly recommend it. Not cheap however.

    • Wow! As you said it's not cheap so I've wishlisted for now :)

  • The Sistema stainless thermos-style flask bottles are pretty good and very affordable. You can often get them for $9 or less at the supermarket, good for hot or cold: https://www.countdown.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=68…

    • We have a few of those too - I have never had one leak on me (maybe I have just been lucky though - you should be careful of individual experiences as they mean little in reality).

However, for $9, if one leaked, I'd happily buy another.

    • Thanks. I already have something similar. I'm looking for a cup, i.e. with a wide mouth so it's easier to pour hot water into to make tea, and to drink from :)

      • I use the flask to make tea - it is trivial to pour boiling water in as the opening is plenty wide enough. You could pair with a separate cup I guess.

It must be harder to make a 'cup' watertight (compared to a flask), so likely to cost much more as Arsonist points out. Also, and again, this is a sample of one, I have had supposedly watertight sipper cups leak on me. I would definitely not trust one in a backpack myself, but maybe the Amazon one that Arsonist links to is much better than whatever I had previously.

  • I've been using tupperware commuter mug for a year now, highly recommendable. — https://tupperware.co.nz/product/insulated-commuter-mug-w-ro…

    • It looks nice and solid but costs more than the resale value of my phone :)

    i have this one https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1073678/contigo-westloop-…

got it on sale for around 30 or slightly less last time.

can tip it upside down and it doesn't leak.

    • It seems to tick all my boxes and the price would be reasonable at 50% off! I wish I had asked yesterday as there was a Briscoes sale then. Hope the next one isn't too far away! I'd go for a more exciting colour though! :)

I think you can safely assume that Briscoes will be doing another sale in the not too distant future :-)

I can vote for this as well. Bought it from amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Contigo-507511-Westloop-Autoseal-C…

I also have couple of water bottles for my kids, and they are great as well.

Just a note. do read the care instructions. Not all parts are dishwasher safe.

  • Have a frank green cup which I like. Quite pricy but got it when they had 50% off last year.

    • If I had bought all those Onceit vouchers the cost for a frank green cup would be quite reasonable!

Have a look at hydro flask or Yeti. They will have options that suits all your needs.

    350ml

    $8.60 with hospitality NZ code

Doesn't leak - chuck it in my bag or side pocket when on my motorbike - also fits car cup holders

Double insulated - says hot/ cold - found it too good to the point I'd have to wait for ages for the drink to cool if I made my drink hot
Also means it's not even warm to touch

Bought one white (more of a cream colour) then later bought a second in black
Have also bought 2 as gifts - couldn't recommend them more

It has a 2 part lid - 360 drinking sort of think (great if you drink tea and leave the tea bag in as it will never completely block the drinking hole) and top lid to seal, can also remove completely to be more of a cup design/ make the drink

Think I saw a similar design in Kmart the other day so might be worth checking their price too
