Chemist Warehouse Changed Their Price Match Policy?

Just went there for the nappie deal. https://www.cheapies.nz/node/33868#comment-127479

Was a painful waiting process (about 30 minutes): the counter staff reported to the supervisor, then the store manager, then the area manager. I ended up being told that I can only get one item maximum for price match.

Have checked their policy again and it reads: The price matching policy is limited to the retail limit applicable or a maximum quantity of one of each product.

I'm pretty sure that it was three not long ago. The change has made their Price Match system more dispensable now.

  • Usually 3, but last time I went to Botany, they said 6. This was about 3 months ago.

    • Just left a comment further down, I checked the wayback web archive, going back as far as 2020 their price policy always stated limit of 3.

Looks like staff have no idea haha

  • can confirm I remember it was 3 some time last year.

    Jason here from Bargain Chemist.

Bargain Chemist price match policy remains unchanged and we'd happily supply the items you requires up to a maximum of 3 - unless you were using them to beat us :).

Please feel free to reach out to me direct either way at [email protected] and we can help you out I'm sure.

Hi Jason, Your website says click and collect orders must be price-beat via email after ordering. Upon emailing, your staff say it must be done instore upon pickup as it can't be done by them. Upon asking for price-beat during click-and-collect pickup, I was told they couldn't do it because it's a different system. What is the actual answer for the correct way to price-beat on a click-and-collect order?

      • Morning,

Bargain Chemist doesn't currently offer Click and Collect. You may have had this experience with Chemist Warehouse. Let me know if that isn't the case though and I can help resolve.

        Regards,

        Jason

        • Apologies Jason, I did mix up the two. I’ll probably give you guys a go next time after my experience, thanks!

    • Hi Jason,

I sent you an email for price match on the 26th with no response yet.

  • Their price match wasn't fantastic anyway, maybe it's just their tactic to discourage price matching…haha

Yes, their policy (same as Bargain Chemist) is 10% off the difference in price as opposed to 10% lower than than the competitors price.
Means it's hardly worth it particularly for items with minimal price difference.

      • Still useful if the deal is in a different city. I'm in Christchurch and have done a couple of price matches for Auckland deals via email in the past. The in-store price match experience was always terrible. They used to refuse to price match because 'they can only price match the certified retailers'.

Never had problems with the email price match. But sometimes they respond pretty slowly.

Yeah, and half the staff don't even know the correct policy. I know it well and the last time I got something pricebeat in-store, the manager started rambling about how the discount was random and how the supplier decided the minimum price, when in reality it is just a straight 10% off the difference.

I decided it wasn't worth my time to correct her.

      • Should mention to her that if the supplier is trying set a minimum price then they are in breach of the Commerce Act.
Here's some light reading for them

        • She wouldn't even be able to wrap her head around the word "act" let alone commerce.

I think what she was meaning was they can't beat it if it's below their supplier price.

Looking back it now, I realise the term for what she was doing is "mansplaining".

  • So the current policy is here: https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/AboutUs/faq
The price matching policy is limited to the retail limit applicable or a maximum quantity of one of each product.

They have a copy on web archive from the 31st March this year: http://web.archive.org/web/20220331183008/https://www.chemis…
The price matching policy is limited to the retail limit applicable or a maximum quantity of three of each product.

So yes, sometimes in the last 8 weeks their policy has definitly changed
