Prime Video Quality Settings

Hi all!

Does anyone have any idea on how to adjust the quality on Prime Video while using on Samsung Smart TV? Specifically I'd like to lower it as we are in the country on limited gb/month and the kids don't need HD for their cartoons!

I've checked the interwebs and I get helpful messages like;

"Log in to Primevideo.com on your browser on your Windows or mac computer.

  1. Click to your Profile name and choose the Account & Settings option.

  2. Now choose the Playback Option settings. Now there will be three options for prime video quality that you can choose when playing a video on primevideo.com. These are
    Good – Uses About 0.38GB per hour
    Better – Uses About 1.40GB per hour
    Best – Uses About 6.84GB per hour"

However I don't find those settings when logging in via computer(or on the TV anywhere) So I'm guessing that's a US recommendation?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

  • The only way I've found to change the quality settings on Prime Video on PC is when the video is already running you just click on the gear icon on the top right of the screen and choose what quality you want from Good, Better and Best that use 0.38gb, 1.40gb and 6.84gb per hour respectively, but the settings you choose won't transfer over to your other devices.

    As far as I know there is no way to natively change the video quality on the Prime app on your Samsung tv, maybe Android based TV's have the option but there's nothing on the app for Tizen. The only way you could do it would be to hook up an external player that does allow you to change the video quality, a pc or mobile, Amazon Firestick, but of course they cost money and it's a bit of a hassle and depending on how old your kids are they'll probably find some way to wreck it.

    Edited to add - the Prime Video app on Samsung sucks. For some reason my one randomly decides that for this movie or entire tv series it's going to show subtitles for any words shown on the screen (newspaper headlines, text messages, plaques on buildings, street signs etc) even though I have subtitles turned off, and what makes it even better is that the subtitles are either in German or Italian, at least I think it's Italian it could be Spanish or Portuguese I'm not 100% sure because I only speak English. At least my Prime Video is free, if I had to pay for it I wouldn't.

  • I don't believe you can do this on a Smart TV for Amazon Prime.
    You can do it on the App (I have iOS but believe Android is the same).

    Click the settings cog then 'Streaming & Downloading', then 'Streaming quality'.
    This allows you to set the quality to good, better, best.
    Also gives the option to turn off 'Use highest quality on Wi-Fi'.
