Love the details of the research. Good post!

  • A few updates:

Got the "Coupon code "10MAC" is not valid." error with the iMac with Retina 5K display - 3.5GHz and a few others… might be a web page glitch.

Also, that model iMac is $3499 direct from apple. http://www.apple.com/nz/shop/buy-mac/imac-retina

Which makes it a 4.85% price difference.

    • Weird. The sale is promoted on their front page so the code should work.

I guess Pricespy doesn't search through the Apple store. Have updated the table. Cheers.

  • This deal was advertised on the front page of dick smith for saturday and sunday - and both days i tried several times to apply the coupon and each time it said invalid coupon. I even tried upper, lower case etc just to be sure.
In the end I emailed dick smith, called them (Filipino lady on the phone was utterly unhelpful and didnt call me back as promised), finally walked into Dick Smith in Wellington on the monday and mentioned the fact i had tried to purchase a macbook pro and couldnt despite the advertisement on the front page - and they basically said tough.

Walked round the corner to JB Hifi - and the guy there said "ah that sucks, sure we can do that for you" - and gave me 10% off a new model macbook pro - i even upgraded to bigger SSD because I was so stoked.

I was annoyed enough with Dick Smith to create an account to post this - and after spending several grand on them in the past I wont be back.

Moral of the story - you might be able to get a good deal if you just ask for it - so worth shopping around :)

    /end rant :)

Thanks for the info and welcome to the community. This is actually not the first time someone has mentioned something similar to this, involving DS screeibg up a Mac sale, and JB cleaning up the mess to help out.

I know Neil posts these a lot, I might just mention to him that it might be worthwhile adding a little footnote to his DS Mac posts and link to the two comments about how if people have problems with the sale or any issues, that JB have historically been very good at helping out when DS have screwed up. Not price matching as such, because it isn't really an advertised fare, but just being able to offer the same deal on the spot.

        As expected, generic response.
