Phone reccomendation under $700 for wife?

Looking for a new phone for my wife pre our overseas trip. She is currently using a 3 year old samsung a30, which is a bit slow now.

I myself run an iphone 12, love it. But am out of touch with the market for android these days.

Any solid reccomendations?
Main thing is solid camera, solid battery life and some sort of ongoing OTa update would be nice.

budget of about $700nzd tops.

Or should I wait till the iphone 14 and give her my 12?

  • Happy with my oneplus nord. They're about $600 when i bought it.
If you want ios, perhaps iphone se?

    • I personally think the se is a very bad option. Get any model of the latest range instead.

Have you considered Samsung A52s? Bought one at the start of the year and loving it so far.

    • Would the Galaxy A52 be better than an old Galaxy S, eg S20?

      • Galaxy S20
        - 8 or 12GB RAM
        - 120Hz AMOLED
        - Good build quality
        - Good camera
        - $800 - $1000?

        Galaxy A52s
        - 6GB RAM
        - 120Hz OLED
        - Okay build quality
        - Okay camera
        - $557 at PBTech

Obviously the S series is a tier above in terms of overall quality, however, for me the A52s at its price range was good enough for my everyday usage. After all, it really depends on what you are looking for, but in terms of overall quality, S series is definitely better.

  • I like my Oppo Find X2 lite - it's 5G also.
Cost was $799 a couple years ago. You could look at the Find X3 Lite.
Mine seems to be a good phone, fast enough for my liking and never faulted yet.

Good price right now Also dual sim, 8 GB ram, 128 onboard storage and reasonable camera. Do your own research though with a couple of online reviews.

  • You'd be hard pressed to find a best bang for buck phone than this one Xiaomi Poco F3 Dual Sim 8GB RAM 256GB 5G with a snapdragon 870 chip. 256gb is plenty of space for wifey to go on a selfie taking spree.

I've not bought anything from that store, people over at geekzone have and says all good. I'm in no hurry to get a phone just waiting for the Easter sales but if nothing pans out then for sure will be getting this F3. I think Xaiomi are releasing the F4 soon so may be further discounts.

If anyone here has bought from Supero would be good to hear the buying experience.

    Bro, this simple as 1,2,3
    1) Wait for the iphone 14
    2) Get it for her
    3) You keep your 12
    Ka ching. You welcome.

    • genius move right here.

  • Samsung S20 FE is a good phone for the price.

  • Huewei P30 pro - if any is left..

  • yea, got tax free iphone13 from PB tech or airport store. Or iPhone 14

  • Send hand iPhone se or any iPhone

  • Depending where you are going on your trip it might be cheaper to buy overseas. I used to live in London and im surprised at how expensive phones are here. My husband has the Samsung M51 and the battery life is over 2 days with heavy use

    • Hi, if you buy a phone in the UK will there be any issues using it here in NZ, making phone calls etc. I'm on 2degrees.

      • Is that a question? If so, it all depends on the bands that the phone is compatible with and whether it's network locked or not. https://teletronics.co.nz/index.php/nz-mobile-info/#:~:text=….

If you have a newer phone from a big brand its unlikely you will be unable to find a network that it will work on, in most countries.
