Mitre 10 Price Beat

How pedantic are Mitre 10 about the model numbers?

i.e. for '30 Seconds Spray and Walk Away 5L Concentrate'

At Mitre 10:
$27.98
Model Number 09606
https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/30-seconds-spray-walk-away-li…

At Bunnings:
$27.90
Model Number 3976069
https://www.bunnings.co.nz/30-seconds-5l-spray-and-walk-away…

Is this on purpose so they don't have to price beat an 'identical product' or do they accept that at the end of the day, it's exactly the same thing?

They look identical to me, not sure what's the actual "model number" printed on the label of the product.

What I do to "prove" it's the same product, if you can get to the cheaper store in this case Bunnings, take a photo of the price, product and barcode. Because the barcode means it's the same thing on both stores shelves.
I do that for all price beats now so I have to argue less, hope it works for you!

  • The last time I used the price beat, they weren't too pedantic. I think you can argue that it's the same volume and the description is exactly the same. I just showed them a screen shot on my phone with the price and description. They didn't scan any barcode.

    Good luck!

  • I’ve never had a problem with the Mitre 10 price guarantee.
As long as you can show the evidence of the competitors better price it has always been a quick process.
I can’t see you having any issues with this.

    • Have you tried when the model number is different though?

I'm not sure what the model number even refers to with this product.
If you look on the 30 Seconds website there is only one 5L Concentrate they do.
I have not price matched 30 seconds but have done so with other garden chemicals and never had a problem.

The issue of model number difference usually comes into play with items like power tools where the same tool will have different model numbers when they come with different accessories as part of a package. You will have more difficulty price matching that.

In this case just give it a go - nothing to lose!
