Seems like a cunning strategy to sell accessories with a PS5 purchase!

    • This is better than a scalper priced ps5. You're getting what you pay for.

      • Sold out already, but I have to agree better than buying from a scalper.

However, I am not paying an extra $700 or so (almost double!) to get a PS5 with some games that I would not purchase regardless, and a headset I would never use.

I guess you could try to recoup some of the $700 by selling the games and the headset, but what would you get for this on, say, TradeMe:

1 x Gran Turismo 7 standard game disc
1 x Horizon Forbidden West PS5 game disc
        1 x Crash Bandicoot 4 PS5
        1 x Rainbow Six Extraction PS5
        1 x PlayStation 5 Pulse 3D Wireless Gaming Headset – Midnight Black

I guess you might, maybe, just about, could get back $500 on that lot, or am I being wildly optimistic?

If so, then you are now paying $1,000 for the console.

        Alan.

In that hypothetical scenario you'd come out on top seeing as you forgot to include the extra red controller and controller dock that have a combined retail of $184 making the console less than it's rrp of $819.

          HmmYepNah.

@[Deactivated]: RRP for official accessories is pure gravy for the retailers. You can get a dual charging dock for $5 at Kmart.

            • @Avantime: Wow, you can get a PS5 dual charge dock/stand for $5 from Kmart? Care to share the link?

              • +3
                • +1

@NeM2k2: Awesome! Been looking on Aliexpress at them but for $5 I'll give the Kmart one a try.

Anyone know what kind of usb C cable you need to charge the controller? I can't get mine to charge on any lead other than the one that came with the console.

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: Does that mean you don't get a controller and dock included in the basic ($819 or thereabouts in theory) pack?

            • +1

@Alan6984: You don't get a dock but you get the white controller that comes in the box with the console. Are you being serious or you having me on?

              • -2

                @[Deactivated]: No - completely serious.

I haven't looked at what comes in the box - I just guessed it would be the console, cables to connect to power / TV, and a controller.

For PSX, PS2, PS3, and PS4 we have always gone for two controllers, so I figured that would be either an additional purchase or a 'keep' from this bundle.

                • +1

@Alan6984: What? Your original comment worked out that you'd be left paying $1000 for the console after selling the rest, I replied saying that you forgot the extra controller and charging dock. It was a simple reply that was pretty easy to understand I don't know how it got so confusing God damn I hate the internet and everyone on it sometimes.

                  HmmYepNah.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Okay - I had thought that your suggestion of selling the additional controller would leave me with only one controller, so I would not look to be selling it. Not sure what a separate controller costs though - $75 maybe?

I didn't know about the charger - but from what NeM2k2 posted above, they are only about $5 / $10 anyway.

                    • +1

@Alan6984: PS5 Console with the one controller that comes with it - $819
Minimum $100 for the 4 games, retail more but currently on special - $400
Second dualsense controller, again usually a bit more but currently on special - $100
                      Headset - $180
Charging dock, Sony offical one that is in the bundle - $55

That comes to 1549, if you bought it all individually at full retail I would add another 100 at least.

Not exactly a huge saving but not a rip off by any means

                        • +1

@Alan6984: You might want to read someone's post a bit more carefully before putting words in their mouth, but that should go without saying. I said "..but not a rip-off by any means".

I was just trying to clarify some things you seem to have difficulty understanding, my mistake.

                            • +1

@Alan6984: If you read up above, you'll see that I didn't say it was a rip-off, I also didn't say that you said it was a rip-off.

All I stated was that it's not a great deal but not a rip-off, which seemed to trigger you somehow.

I think that's enough internet for today.

  • Prices From Pricespy:

    $819.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 Disc Console
    $104.00 - x Gran Turismo 7 standard game disc
    $108.00 - 1 x Horizon Forbidden West PS5 game disc
    $79.00 - 1 x Crash Bandicoot 4 PS5
    $59.00 - 1 x Rainbow Six Extraction PS5
    $179.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 Pulse 3D Wireless Gaming Headset – Midnight Black
    $129.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller – Red
    $50.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 DualSense Dual Charging Station

    =$1527

So you're basically paying just under the cheapest Retail pricing for all of it

It's a deal if you want a PS5 and most of those games.
    It's not a deal if you don't

But considering the scalper market you'd be paying $1000+ for just the console if you don't get one from retail withing 2-3mins of its availability
Most console people will get eventually whether they buy it upfront or later down the line, or go for 2nd hand/knock off:
a spare controller, headset, charging dock

Yeah its a cunning way to sell more stuff, but it's also a great way to screw the scalpers since the games and accessories will have to be sold under value which means it takes a hit on their profits i.e:

    $1100.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 Disc Console
    $90.00 - x Gran Turismo 7 standard game disc
    $90.00 - 1 x Horizon Forbidden West PS5 game disc
    $50.00 - 1 x Crash Bandicoot 4 PS5
    $40.00 - 1 x Rainbow Six Extraction PS5
    $150.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 Pulse 3D Wireless Gaming Headset – Midnight Black
    $100.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller – Red
    $40.00 - 1 x PlayStation 5 DualSense Dual Charging Station

    =$1660

For all the work to try sell it its not really worth that ~$150 profit
Those on Trademe selling $1650+ also have to take on the $130+ in fees so there goes that profit even more.

On a slightly askew and related topic I've started selling stuff on Marketplace and must say getting a lot more queries and much faster turnaround. With NO FEES to boot. Screw Trademe they've seen the last of my money the fee gouging bastards.

    • Markerplace is a very good palce to sell stuff to local buyers.

      • +1

        Downside of FB marketplace is

        1) Is this still available? messages with no intention to reply or purchase when you reply
        2) Being mucked around or scammed as there's no reputation
        3) Being banned by FB AI for no reason other than people reporting you coz they might not like something or so

    • +1

We have found you get mucked about a lot more on FB Marketplace than on TradeMe.

For me, it is all about whether its worth selling in terms of a notional hourly rate of return, and I just couldn't make it work with FB - I worked out it would be better to throw all the stuff in the bin and get a part time job at McDonalds.

On TM, we list it, people bid, someone wins, they send me the cash, and I go to TM and book the a courier, or they turn up at a time that works for me give me cash, and take the item away. 95% of the time there aren't even any questions on TM, and most of the rest are requests for a courier quote to XYZ which TM facilitates to take a couple of mins.

We also found we were getting maybe 25% higher prices on TM, but that will vary by item and the seller's reputation (I have 100% feedback and an account more than twenty years old so buyers immediately know they won't get ripped off or mucked around).

We have given up completely on FB Marketplace now.

      Alan.
