Already overdosed for this season, but I still upvoted…haha

    • Cheers!
I looked at it several times last year but this is the first time I've actually purchased.
Got sick of buying cheap avos from the supermarket only to find a large number brown inside and tasteless.

I've only had three so far but all have tasted great.

  • Now question is how do I use this many avocado as a single person

    • +2

5kg might be a bit much for a single person!
They do arrive green and will keep longer in the fridge if you need to delay ripening.

Might be better with a smaller box for an individual
You can get 6x Jumbo Avocados for $11.05 ($12.99 less 15% discount) which might be more manageable.

Live life like a billionaire and eat smashed avo on toast every morning with a crack of salt and pepper on top… Nom.

      • Sounds good to me!

    • +1

Shell and squash them all and freeze them, they stay green as long as you can keep the air out.

  • Ordered a box, thanks for posting!

  • +1

How many in a 5KG box, y'all reckon?

    • +1

I never counted them in my 3kg box (which had an extra 20% free) but I am guessing I got about 16.
      So, I would say between 25-30 in a 5kg that's topped up.
Don't hold me to that though!

      • +3

Oh, wow! I really went ambitious in ordering them, then, considering it's mainly me that eats them… Every meal will have avocado in it now :D

        Thanks, OP, fantastic post!

Got one a couple of weeks ago. 29.
We did end up throwing a couple of the seconds away.

Taken about 10 days for bulk of them to ripen, issue is we now have 14 all ripe at the same time.

We did try some in the fridge and they are still green, so that may be the way to stop them from ripening as fast.

We kept some in the box away from the rest of the fruit which helped slow them down by a few days.

And kept some with the bananas which ripened the fastest.

We eat at least 1-2 per day, but found it’s too many at once unless you want to freeze or have a use for them.

  • Any stores that offer a similar deal for other fruits/veges?

  • +1

Here's a link to their FAQ page that might answer some questions:

    Some key points:

    • To slow down ripening put them in the fridge
    • To ripen quicker place in a paper bag with a banana or kiwifruit and leave in a warm place
  • Looks like it is now $20 + shipping?

    • You need to add the promo code 15OFF at checkout to get the 15% off and bring the price for this deal down from $20 to $17 + shipping.

      • OK Thanks

  • Couldn't get the 15OFF code to work this morning. Maybe expired? However I signed up to the mailing list for a 10% one off discount.

    • Just checked again now and still working.
What message did you get when you put the code in?
Maybe try a different email address?

      • Haha oh damn. All good tho, still happy with 10% off.

        • Hey I signed up to the email list and didn’t get a 10% code. What is it?

          • @ohHiMark: I believe the code can only be used once, but feel free to try. 77B7-QWUU-VPMH

Purchased. Shipping was $4.95 to Hamilton.

  • The 5kg box seems to be $23 for me - so maybe they increased the price.

    • Yes it looks like the sale pricing has ended on this one now.
You can still get 30x small avocados for $17 ($20 less the 15% coupon) on sale and a couple of other deals too, but not the 5kg box for this price.

      I'll expire the deal now.

      • I still bought it anyway - they be $5 each again soon enough.. not going to miss out on a bucket of Guacamole for $3

  • My 5kg box just arrived, and they did fill it to the top! Weighed the avocados and total weight is actually 6.45kg - which is amazing that you get 1.5kg for free. Total is 30 avocados, so average weight is approx 215g per avocado. I even find that their quality is still better than the supermarket, so definitely a deal for me!

EDIT: seems like the price has gone back down to $20 for the box - so maybe can un-expire the deal?

  • Got my box. 7kg (including the cardboard box) or 36 avocados.

  • Just got an update from Grower Outlet in regards to avocado deliveries.
If you have ordered but still haven't received them yet then it may pay to follow up with them

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Like many New Zealand businesses, we are facing an incredibly difficult environment with the rapid spread of Omicron. We have been doing our best to continue bringing you fresh avocados despite staff shortages and numerous operational challenges.

Today, our courier partner (who has done an amazing job for us) advised that their business is under tremendous pressure and they are struggling to deliver current parcels and believe the challenge is only going to increase for them for the foreseeable future.

Given we have our own operational difficulties and now with uncertainty about delivery times, we've made the difficult decision to halt operations for 1 month until (hopefully) we are on the other side of Omicron's peak.

If you are currently waiting for a delivery, this may take up to 5 days. If it's over 5 days, then please feel free to contact us and we will follow this up.

If you have a subscription, it will be paused and automatically recommence when we return.

We love bringing fresh avocados to our customers and this decision is a difficult one, but we believe it is in the best interests of our customers.

We will keep you updated and hopefully will be able to resume as normal in 1 month's time. We appreciate your understanding during these strange times.

    With many thanks,
    The Grower Outlet Team

  • Never received the parcel after waiting for 13 days and now been told that the courier company (PostHaste) has kept the parcel as it is out of their 5 days window delivery timeline. Still waiting for refund to be processed.

Please be aware before ordering next time.
