  • I can attest to the Lenovos, I have a 100e and just helped buy a 14' one for a friend. I would not recommend you to expect buying a laptop to use throughout the entire 5 years, you should be upgrading at around year 3-4. Mine has been going very well for 2+ years. The hp's I've seen have less ruggedness and are more vulnerable to drops, schools are more damaging than one might expect. 429 is way too much for an 11.6' Chromebook. Most chromebooks are very similar, celeron 4020, 32g emmc. take a look at priceme and pricespy, the sales are often not good.

  • +1

I bought a lenovo ideapad - from Amazon Australia. Saved $120 on what it was selling for at the time at Noel Leeming (which would have taken 3 weeks to get to a store) and it arrived in 5 days.

  • I got my daughter an Asus one - I think similar to this - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKASU204250/ASUS-Chromeboo…

Its small and light and battery lasts a surprising long time - most of the day - most of all it has a touch screen - and that seems to be a real killer feature - all the other kids dont seem to have this and a very jealous of being able to scroll around and click on a lot of the apps etc with the screen (or so Im told) and I do notice she spends a lot of her time touching the screen - whereas on my laptop I barely ever use the touch screen, so worth keeping that in mind.

    • There is also a flip version but it's out of stock till March not many for under 500 with 2 and one function

  • Asus and Lenovo seem to be the nicest built ones having handled quite a few different ones.
Touch screens are a bonus and quite a few are adopting it as some schools have made it a requirement
