Please Suggest a Good Backpack for Uni Student

I am planning to gift a backpack to my nephew who is going to start uni soon. Does anyone have a decent one they can recommend?
would this be good? https://www.kathmandu.co.nz/solus-pack-20l-clearance.html?co…
Thanks.

  • Looks decent. Would be nice if it had a bottle holder on the side.

Main things I usually took to uni were laptop, water, keys, books, personal accesories.

Figure out if he’s a backpack kinda guy or laptop satchel kinda guy. If I was staying in the halls, I’d prefer a satchel and just carry my water bottle. If I had quite a bit of walking to do, I’d prefer a backpack. People have different preferences though.

  • 20l is too small even for a primary school kid. If you have to carry lunch as well then 20l is definitely not enough. I suggest you go with at least 25l. If you don't have to carry lunch it's still nice to have the space for a hat or a light jacket. And definitely consider these features: external bottle holder, waist straps (making it so much more comfortable to carry), water resistant.

Have a look at something like this — https://www.kathmandu.co.nz/parker-pack-clearance.html

  • Everki bags are good quality but bit on an expensive side with lifetime warranty. Check elive for bag that suits you:

  • Towards the end of my Mechanical Engineering degree, I only carried some loose papers of A4 and one pen(to prevent people 'borrowing' my pen and not giving it back) and that sufficed me for third and also final year lol (pre covid)
