Question about Those Large Garden Waste Bags Aka Wool Packs

Bought these type of bag for the first time ever to collect grass clippings around the house.

My question is, are these suppose to come out of the plastic sealed bags smelling like manure and looking rather used? Would like to know if this was normal.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting; when I read "recycled wool pack" I thought these were supposedly made from recycled wool but in reality it seems like it was previously used to transport wool, and then they just seal it in a plastic bag and chuck it on the shelf for $12?

Yup, they are used for storing wool once sheared.
They will have a few dags on the wool etc when put in the bag. The main smell is lanolin from the oils in the wool.
Any holes are stitched closed, but it is normal.
The smell goes away eventually by itself.

Thanks for the clarification! I had no idea lanolin was responsible for the smell…absolutely rancid haha, but good to know it's nothing bad and will go away eventually!

I also made the rookie mistake of leaving a grass filled wool pack in the car overnight (because the landfill closed yesterday before I could get it there) and the morning sun kind of "baked" the bag in 20+ degree heat and intensified the smell. That one wave of odour I got when I opened the car door today almost knocked me out.

      • Yeah, folded up in plastic keeps the smell in while on the shelves.
        Oops!

      • 😂
