[Feedback Requested] Deals for Other Countries?

We have been discussing the best way to deal with content that is targeted at people who may be travelling to other countries, stemming from the "Free Rail Card (Normally £15) & Return Travel Anywhere in Scotland £10 for Over 50s" deal posted by TA.

A negative vote by KJ has lead us to query whether such content is relevant to the ChoiceCheapies community or not, and decided that it would be best to put the question to the community to get feedback about what deals you'd all like to see or not.

Do you want to see deals that are only applicable if you are in another country or do you think that ChoiceCheapies should only show deals applicable to those in New Zealand?

Please let us know in the comments below.

Note that this does not include deals from overseas that are shipped or delivered to NZ in any way, or travel deals from NZ, just deals that only apply to people in other countries, or of use to people travelling to these countries.

I think that it should be allowed. It doesn't really hurt anyone, you can just scroll past if you don't like it and it could help someone going on holiday. :) Another alternative would be to have separate section for overseas deals or something.

Like the idea of having a moderated separate section for overseas content. Problem with having them blended with normal flow is that it can potentially overwhelm local content. You want a reasonably amount of deal flow to maintain interest in the site. However, if it becomes too voluminous with deals not directly relevant, that can also drive away attention.

Best perhaps to have a handful of selected deals each week, in a separate overseas deals section.

It's probably not frequent enough to bother people. But if it was frequent id definitely not want it in my feed.

As you started travel directly related to nz is fine. Eg flights from Auckland to Hong Kong etc.

  • Have decided that the best way, for now, is to just keep things as they are.

With the deals page now separated from the homepage, and the relatively tiny number of overseas deals involved, it wouldn't justify the dev time to make large scale site/code changes to end up with a pretty empty page.

At some point, if there does come a day where there is a significant increase in overseas only deals, we may introduce a dedicated section for them, or something simple like a tick box that you are able to select to opt out of seeing them.

    • If OP's exercise common sense and just add the occasional one that seems particularly choice, should work well enough.
