    As a new runner, are the sub features essential? I am just relying on my Garmin Connect now.

      I only use it for the segment leaderboards, rest of the metrics I'm happy enough with what Garmin has.

      Nah you can get heaps out of it without subscription.
      Subscription enables more analysis and progress tracking and a few more things to make it fun. The feature blocking with "subscription only" popup is a little annoying.
