Does Mitre10 Price Guarantee Apply to Online Stores/Deals?

As per title, has anyone here manage to get a Price Guarantee/Beat for an online store/deal?

I see an identical item on TheMarket (deal actually from 1-day) at a lower price and was wondering if it can be done. I've only ever used the Price Guarantee to compare with Bunnings.

Reading the fine print on their website:

Our Price Guarantee
* If you find a lower price on an identical stocked product locally we will beat it by 15%.

Key word here is LOCALLY. Is it interpreted as "same city/town" or "domestic"?

Any clarification would be much appreciated.

  • They (Mitre10 Ruakura for me) usually argue that it has to be a physical store you can visit, like a Briscoes or a Bunnings. 1-day is technically local since they have a warehouse here in Hamilton but it isn’t a store I can walk into. And then it depends on the manager you get; some might say yes, some might say no.

Just give it a go and see what happens?
    What’s the item?

Thanks for the input. I managed to get the price beat without any fuss at my branch. The staff that was helping me did ask her supervisor whether freight should be factored in, to which the supervisor answered not right now but in the future (soon) they will. So that's something to keep in mind for future price beats.

Classic Wakrak always looking out for a deal haha, unfortunately it's nothing too exciting.

If your local Pak N Save stocks this item you can get it for as low as $14.99.

  • I've had different experiences from different stores in the same city.

Earlier this year I emailed the customer care email a few questions. One of them being what was the definition of local. This is their reply "**A retailer in New Zealand where you can buy the product in-store or online."

I also asked "If New Zealand then does the store have to have a physical store?" and they responded "no it doesnt please see above".
this was following me asking if the retailer had to be in the same city or anywhere in NZ.

I haven't done a price match with them since then but if I ever did and they tried to deny me I'd show them this email.

      • Going to be annoying to work that out at checkout, as normally have to go through the checkout process online before getting to the shipping charge, perhaps they will just add a fixed amount.

  • I've always interpreted locally mean within the same town or region. If they mean NZ wide, I'd assume they'd say within NZ or something like that. Especially since they only allow price matches in store and not online. Like Wakrak I'd probably try my luck if it is an NZ store with the lower price, but wouldn't fault them for refusing it.

Interesting some stores specifically exclude daily deal sites but not Mitre10, perhaps again because assuming they interpret it as within the same area, it's only Hamilton where you could make the argument.

WHS (NM-AKL) used that "locally" argument to refuse me a price match, I had a chat with the HQ via feedback and they talked to the then store manager who eventually agreed to the price match. I'm not sure what term was used in the T&C, I just want my price match…LOL

      • good stuff …this is the way
