Think I need a new washing machine

My washing machine purchased off Trade me about 18months ago is starting to miss fire.

Doesnt seem to be spinning or draining properly.

I am renting so not too keen to spend a huge amount but would really luke to get something reliable.

The Medria fround loaders seem to be. Decent price but can not find much in the way if review.

Does anyone have any advise on where or what is best to buy? Im based on the shore in Auckland

I would recommend Bosch or LG front loaders.
Expect to pay around $1000 new, but you can pick up great deals on second hand units that are only a few years old.

    • Yeah love Bosch when we eventually buy I will be keen to get one.

I would ideally like to spend between 500-750. Happy to go 2nd hand/ transit danage if I can find somewhere with a good reputation.

    • Can't comment on Bosch, but we have had an LG Front-Loader for about eight years now, and it has been excellent - no issues at all.

If I was in the market for something with a shorter life, I would have no qualms about getting a second-hand LG. I'd make sure it looked like it had been looked after, and expect seals to maybe need replacing (based on prior experience with other brands - no issues in that respect for our LG so far).

      I probably shouldn't have typed this :-)

Try looking in the 2 Bunnings stores on the shore, if one of them happen to put out a clearance washer (ex display etc, new with warranty) for $199, why not?

    • Not a bad shout. Will check out there website to see what they have.

  • Yeah Bosch and LG are probably more reliable but a friend bought a Midea washing machine which is like in your price range 1-2 months ago at a quite "discrete" store called Catchers? in Wairau that sells furniture and appliances. They took their chances to check them out considering their super good Google review rating. Friend was really pleased. They got like 6-months worth of laundry detergent as a special promotion at the time if I remember correctly. Good luck :)

  • Just be wary of a few older Samsung models as they can spontaneously combust.
