  • is the Movie Of The Week Ticket once over 12 months or 1 each week or each month ? does anybody know?

    • +1

This is only a guess, but for $9 I would think it was once in the twelve months.

It would be a stunning deal if it was once a week, but I think that sounds too good to be true!

      Alan.

      • yes I thought so - too good to be true. thats why I thought of asking the Cheapies experts :)

  • Can you use this to extend an existing membership, or do you have to do the maths (worth losing four months, but not five I think - please correct me if I'm wrong) about creating a new account?

Edit: Actually, I just re-read the post, and it is valid for 184 more days (as of right now), so probably best to schedule for later when either the current membership has expired, or the deal is about to. However, I can't seem to find out when our current membership actually expires. If anyone can see how to work that out, I'd be very grateful!

    Thanks,

    Alan.

  • I haven't been to the movies in ages, but when did the standard price become $20?! Even with 25% off, it's still $15. : (

    • Yeah - it does seem to have crept up over the last ten years, like everything else I guess.

It will be interesting if cinemas in general survive Covid-19. Elsewhere, and in particular the US & Europe, many must be on their knees I would think, and some movies are going direct to streaming now, so I wouldn't be investing in a cinema at this point!

Having said that, cinemas have been moving from the movie alone to a more holistic experience for forty years since VHS / Betamax became common in the 80s, so maybe this is just accelerating that movement towards the whole 'experience'. Hoyts at Botany is, I believe, now 100% recliner seats and maybe 100% food and drink service to your seat, so I guess then a $20 ticket price maybe makes more sense.

      Alan.

PS: I had a friend who was a Fanboi (though perhaps the term did not exist then) of Betamax - he's probably a Apple guy now :-)

  • Just a note for anyone else that put a reminder on this deal - it was marked as expiring on 27 Nov 2021, but as of today it is no longer available.

    C'est la via.

    Alan.
