Anybody else notices that petrol prices have been very high lately, Haven't got less than $2 per litre for few months now.

    • Yeah Waitomo in Wellington usually hovers around 1.9 per litre now its $2

    • That's true as last year before lockdown it was the same price as of now (around $2.2 - 2.4). But during lockdown production was more than consumption. So crude oil price fell and during lockdown petrol was around $1.6 - 1.7/ litre. As lockdown has been lifted across the globe crude fuel prices are jumping back up. Even local government fuel tax can be another factor adding to the fuel price.

    Christchurch cheapest is NPD:
    $1.796 for 91
    $1.896 for 95

    Wellington Gull and Allied cheapest:
    $1.877 for 91
    $2.016 for 95

    Auckland cheapest is Gull:
    $1.927 for 91
    $2.067 for 95

South Island wins! Only 2-3 years ago the trend was reverse. Why is the South cheaper now?

    • Wondering which Christchurch NPD are you talking about with that price?

Other than Auckland's regional fuel tax (adds 10c or 10% or something like that), I can't think of any reason.

      • NPD Port Hills and NPD Stanmore stations. However the self service Gull stations are only 0.1c more expensive so those may be closer.
I haven't gone to Z, BP or Caltex in over 2 years now. Except for the free coffee of course. Don't know why there's such a price difference >15c

  • Thanks - yup effectively if Gull is only 1c dearer but much closer then it makes sense to go for it (will be going to Gull South Hagley during lunchtime today).

We've got NPD Yaldhurst close to where we live but the prices there aren't really interesting enough…

    • Yes you are right, only the Self Service stations are worth it for NPD in my opinion, the staffed ones are basically the same price as the old timers.
Unless I am mistaken, $1.796 vs $1.797 is 1/10th of a cent difference which isn't even a valid denomination. I've never seen any other product priced like that.
