20

Good news for those looking to return to Australia, or even head over for an extended stay, the (one way) Trans-Tasman Bubble is Opening on October 16!!

And Jetstar has already started advertising flights for December - see final paragraph - probably on the assumption that the quarantine coming back may be over by then, but I already know of people who just want to head across one-way for a variety of reasons.

Anyway, if you're looking for a one-way ticket, or are prepared to pay quarantine on your return, check out these prices! All are on Jetstar so are with carry-on only. Remember that covid could change things at any time too!

Before booking, you might be interested in managed isolation costs:
$3,100 for the first person in the room
$950 for each additional adult sharing the room
$475 for each additional child (aged 3 to 17 years) sharing that room.

indeed. But I have a relative needing medical treatment which is less than half the price in Australia. Even with quarantine on the way back it's worth it.

I think it is not required if trans Tasman bubble established in Dec and that's why Jetstar starts selling ticket now

      • So its a gamble on there being a 2 way bubble. And if not and you want a refund, will it be cash back or a credit? And Jetstar are the worst airline in the world to deal with on the phone.
        Pass.

But for a one way price yea why not.

        • Actually I flew with them domestic recently, and had several flights cancelled due to COVID or weather. Other options were provided and easy to manage through the app or via the call centre if needs be to amend a name on a ticket etc. Found them pretty good.

@Jaxson: That's good to know, I'm going back to last year but now in covid times these guys might have got a taste of reality and customers are what makes their business. Good on them.

        • Totally disagree, had way better experience with them than Air NZ. In fact never had a problem dealing with Jetstar, not sure why people say they are the worst

          • @LeraNZ: Jetstar is not perfect but at least not the worst I have ever deal with if you are comparing with other budget airlines in the world. Of cause they may not as good as AirNZ, but remember what did you paid……..

@LeraNZ: I once booked a leg at the start of our trip with air NZ as Jetstar had a reputation of cancelling. Air NZ cancelled the flight at short notice and left us driving to Auckland to make the onward connection.

Using the credit from that 1 hour flight later took 2 hours on the phone to Air NZ. They were complete shit to deal with.

You'd be mental to book with an airline that has not yet restarted their trans-tasman services. You can expect these flights to be cancelled or schedule changed and you're left with a credit. No refunds are given by JQ.

I flew with Jetstar one time a while back. I was sat between these two actual huge bodybuilder dudes wearing singlets. They kept talking over me the whole flight to about getting steroids when they arrive in Thailand. Was horrible there huge arms was crushing me from both sides. The air hostess had no sympathy for me. I always recommend people don’t fly with them when I’m asked.

    • This is why you pay extra for seat selection so you are seated in the middle seat…
