10c per Litre off Fuel @ Gull

60

As sort of expected, Gull is doing a discount day again with the typical 7 am Thursday until midday Friday times. Only 10 c per litre unfortunately. But do remember the vouchers from staffed sites give you 10% discount i.e. around 19c per litre off for 91 octane petrol at current prices if you buy in increments on the vouchers ($30, $50 or multiple). They last about 3 weeks starting the Saturday after discount day.

  • I don't know why they always do it on a Thursday which always comes after Z/Caltex/BP 10c off on Wednesdays and they announce it late in the day probably after a lot of people have filled up already.

To be fair, it was Gull that started the whole fuel discount day, then other brands followed. Also, Mobil used to have it on Thurs and Friday a few years back, then shifted it to Tuesdays to avoid the double dipping (price matching with Gull + Smiles card offer). Anyways, it doesn't bother me much because some Gull stations will discount their fuel by 10 cents on a weekly basis now. I suggest checking the Gaspy app on Wednesdays and the weekends.

Thanks Nil Einne: Glad some cheapies keeping an eye on FB posts, as Gull has really slipped badly in the last 2 months, with no Gull discount day at all during August, and now today the usual monthly Gull discount day email alert nowhere to be see, in my Gmail account at least. We in Auckland, with the only regional fuel tax forced on us in NZ 12 cents, from that useless #+*! mayor goff, are totally reliant on the monthly Gull discount day to force down for a day the fuel major brands cosy price rackett in Auckland. (don't believe it? - then watch closely on Gaspy the typical price diff between Akl and closest big market Hamilton. It's often as much as 20 cents lower in Hamilton at their lowest price station/s for 91 petrol. Funny that we notice none of the major parties are saying a peep about this fuel pricing ripoff in the election campaign….. :(

        • If I remember, generally check Facebook on Wednesday 4-5 on Wednesdays near the end of the month if there hasn't been a discount day. Especially after the vouchers have expired if relevant. (Not here since they missed August.) I think they've always posted a coming soon for past few years on Facebook.

(I probably would have checked last week although it was a bit early, since they haven't had a lock down for a while did think it was possible except I forgot. But this week seemed most likely as it was closer to end of month. Even more with the move to level 2 tonight.)

Fairly sure they were planning a discount day in August, then the level 3 lock down happened in Auckland and they decided it was a bad idea, at least from a PR stand point. (Once the lock down happened I figured discount day was off. Think I did read on Facebook someone asked about discount day and Gull replied saying they were encouraging customers to stay home if it wasn't essential, or something along those lines.)

The best thing you get from gull discount day is those coupons which basically give your 10%fuel discount instead. It could talk about 18-20c discount depending on which station

    • Yeah that's actually biggest reason I like discount days although the demise of staffed stations means it's getting less of a bonus for many.

    • Hey SteveLLF,
How do you get those coupons?
I fill regularly at Gull and I have never got one at Gull.
      Cheers.

      • They're only given on discount days. (Maybe a bit after if they don't give them all away, not sure.) If you fill up at a staffed site and pay instore they should give them to you after you pay unless they run out which I think can happen before it ends tomorrow.

They've not available at stations which are unstaffed/all pay at pump. You can't use them when paying at pump and there's also no one to hand them out anyway.

  • Only 10 cents unfortunately

  • Mobil used to do their discount day on Thursday, which coincide with Gull once a month discount on Thursday. So in certain parts of country where there is a Gull near Mobil petrol station, Mobil will pricematch Gull prices and you get a further 10 cents off using Mobil Smiles!
