  • A more precise budget would be helpful. Also what kind of 'home usage' are you envisaging ?
In general i5 is sufficient. You'd need an i7 if you were going to do some serious video editing or etc, but otherwise it'd be overkill and simply deplete your wallet.

    • About $1000-1200.
Yeah i thought i7 will be too much for me

      • Really depends on what software you're using because I know SolidWorks (CAD Software) use single core not multi core so having an i7 wouldn't really make it any faster than an i5 anyway. Also AMD Ryzen line up is so much better than Intel now so worth looking into an AMD Ryzen CPU..

        • Possibly microsoft office.. lol.. generally use laptop for surfing net, making ppt or sometime words. So i5 should be more than enough for me..

Any deal out there for i5??

  • Hi, recently I bought an awesome refurbished laptop AND a desktop from a company on the North Shore, Auckland. They deliver if you are not in Auckland. This was our second purchase in 2 years and we were super happy with the first. I ended up buying an extra big screen with desktop which is awesome (computer and the 24" screen) and cost about $600 - I was rapt. The laptop ended up costing under $400 because I also did an upgrade for the hard drive and installed the latest equivalent which makes the computer go super quick. (sorry I can't remember what I got as my son has a degree in software/programme development and he was advising me) The laptop cost me around $400 (just under actually with the upgrade) and I am also super happy with that purchase. So for under a $1,000 I got two computers which I am really pleased about and I am not doing a selling job I am sharing my excellent experience. Their details are:NZ Laptop Wholesale, Unit 3, 9 Orbit Drive, Rosedale, Auckland 0757
Phone: 09 282 3199. Website: http://www.nzlw.co.nz/ Go onto their site and have a look, they have some awesome deals. Cheers

    • Ill have a look at that…

  • You could save money by not purchasing Microsoft Office unless you specifically need Microsoft. Theres a lot of alternatives. One of the best is Libre Office. This is about 99% compatible with Ms office and has multiple functions similar, Calc, impress, draw, write etc etc ……

    • Thats something i can get later anyways.

I was looking at options without os but couldn't find any.

Does anyone know where can i buy laptop without windows?

  • Doubtful. I won't be a NEW one anyway all manufactured laptops have an operating system. The only new laptop you'll buy without Windows will be Apple or Chromebook.

Why would you want a machine without an operating system anyway ? You'd have to install something otherwise it'll be useless.

    • Yeah i m planning to put linux on this machines.

      Thanks anyways

      • I have, in the past, bought a laptop from Dell (almost certain it was them but I no longer have that machine and there is the possibility that memory fails me!) that came without an OS. I installed Ubuntu (can't remember which version back then - maybe 12.04LTS, but you'd likely go with 20.04LTS now anyway).

Maybe search around their site and see if they still offer that? In theory, it would save you something, but not the full retail (or even OEM) price of Win10, since I would guess that Dell would get a very good deal from MS.

        Alan.
