Jetstar has a really cheap deal to Tokyo via Gold Coast, Australia. Seems to only be a couple of dates in July and August. Fares don't include bags, meals and seat selection.

If you go with a Plus bundle which adds meals, Qantas miles, seat selection, 1 checked bag and no change fee is an extra $152 each way, so $706 return. Or you could go with individual options of $68 each way per bag. Seat selection is $8 for each segment, $24 in total. Meals are from $12 per segment.

    Keep in mind that it gets very humid at that time of year, and about 1/3rd of the time any outdoor activities will be rained out. Also July/August is a school holiday, so there are lots of domestic tourists.
    (Great price and a good place to visit, but make sure your plans fit the realities of the time and place.)
