  • We've been on Vodafone Fibre for over 2 years, it was a mess to setup (they cancelled the order the week we were due to move in cos fibre wasn't available, they should have made it available, and they never told me) but It's been very stable, speed is fine. We pay $60 a month for 100mbit unlimited with Vodafone TV box, get $10 discount from have my work mobile contract with them.

    • $60 is a very good deal. they are offering me $90.00… :(

Same here we are being charged $90. The connection is stable and there aren't any hiccups, but I have to say that their customer service is crap.

I had the same issue with Vodafone's customer service. Every time we tried to contact them, we'd be in a queue for ages - 30 mins was not unusual.

We were spending $25k pa with Vodafone, so not a major account, but not insignificant either, and when I said we wanted an account manager allocated to us to discuss things, they would not send someone out to see us (Central Auckland, so hardly a big deal you'd think). They would only talk to us on the phone (we had to call the general number - not a specific individual).

We called Spark, and they were out to see us like a shot, willing to design a landline, fibre, and mobile package that suited us perfectly, with a known account manager who would sort out whatever changes or queries we had (generally via email, but always happy to visit us if I asked him to).

I would not even consider Vodafone ever again.

          Alan.

          • @Alan6984: Vodafone really are the Sky tv of telecommunications companies

          • @Alan6984: Wait until your employees experience Spark business customer service…. worst experience ever. Spark account manager is only there when they want money from you otherwise was non existent when we had multiple incorrect billing issues with users. Simple things which their Consumer support could easily resolve but they wouldn't help employees because they had to go through "business" support lines which were useless but then they wanted to charge additional support fees in order to improve support. Lol! Spend was 100k+ per year but a small account for Spark.

As far as network is concerned, I was really happy with Vodafone and was with them for 8 years (VDSL then fibre). But they don't value loyalty and refused to offer any good deals when I tried to renew my contract. I decided to switch.

    • which provider did you switch too?

      • Orcon, so far so good (been 2 weeks). Be careful though, their tech support is useless.

      • check this out

        https://www.slingshot.co.nz/

$49.95 for unlimited broadband (with power bundled). Not sure about the quality (I heard Orcon and Slingshot are actually the same company).

        • You can do some math and calculate their power prices at checkout, depending on your location, the per kWh is higher than my current provider (pulse)

With power + Internet, I get more savings signing up to different companies overallbut ymmv

  • Have you considered Bigpipe? It seems to be the Fibre ISP of choice on the Geekzone/GP forums.

    • never heard about them, ill check their website.. thanks

    • Happy Bigpipe customer here. good service

    • bigpipe is owned by spark. might as well go with skinny if you are going with bigpipe - cheaper and both owned by spark.

  • Thank you all for your experience. i checked with a person who works for chorus, he advised me that all network are same(when it comes to fibre). so whichever best deal you are getting take it.

Also, the reason why big companies are popular is because of their customer service. Speed wise all are the same.

    • Not completely true. Some ISP have better peering than others (this increase their costs). Look up the whole "friends don't let friends join myrepublic" on geekzone

  • they are all chorus so doesn't matter. just get the cheapest one or one with best promotion at that time.

  • Vodafone has 3 Months free broadband in credits if you sign up for 12 months or more. After this 12 month period, if there is another "3 Months Free" offer you can call up and ask to be resigned on the same deal.

  • worth keeping in mind vodas 'fibrex' product is fibre to the node(exchange) and the normal cable to the home.
