here is some more info on starter edition…

Ubisoft has made the unusual, and savvy, decision to offer a cheaper version of its popular melee brawler, For Honor. The For Honor Starter Edition is only $14.99, compared to $59.99 for the standard version of the game. The only difference between the two is the number of heroes available when you install the game, and the cost to unlock more over time.
Even with the lower price point, the Starter Edition includes the full and complete version of the game. That means you get both the single-player and multiplayer modes, as well as all the maps. Customers will get three starting heroes — the Warden, Raider and Kensei — that will be fully unlocked and customizable in-game. Then, once they choose a faction to fight for, they will get access to three more heroes based on that choice.
Those characters will be playable immediately. However, the price to fully unlock those three additional characters is 8,000 Steel — For Honor’s in-game currency — compared to only 500 Steel for those who purchase the standard edition of the game. The game’s additional six heroes are not included with the Starter Edition, and will also cost 8,000 Steel each to unlock.
“We feel this lower price point for the game will greatly reduce the barrier to entry”
According to Ubisoft, 8,000 Steel is equivalent to between eight and 15 hours of gameplay. Bundles of Steel are available through the game itself and at the Ubisoft online store and cost roughly $1 per 1,000.
For Honor community manager Eric Pope went to Reddit to explain the decision behind creating the Starter Edition, which is available exclusively on Windows PC via Steam and the Uplay store.
“With Dedicated Servers now delivered and bringing with them stability and connectivity we’ve never before seen in For Honor, the team believes that the time is right to open the gates for more players to enter the game,” Pope said. “We feel this lower price point for the game will greatly reduce the barrier to entry for players across the world.”
Since its launch in February 2017, For Honor has developed a dedicated following online. The development team has leaned into the game’s multiplayer modes, and fueled its large competitive scene and Twitch community. The game’s fifth season of content, called Age of Wolves, was launched just a short time ago and includes dedicated servers. Fans report that the feature has made a big difference in the quality of the experience, adding stability and reducing lag.
