The Bacon Thread

So, I had an idea…

I was cooking lunch, and thinking of the good price that I paid for the bacon, and the alright quality I recieved in return, and a idea for the forum came to mind..

Basically the idea is to find the best quality bacon at the best price in each area.

I would say <$10/KG requirement, as anything above this is quite common for better quality Bacon.

Mine comes from Pak n' Save Petone, it is $8.95/KG and after picking through the packets remaining, there are always a bunch with some really nice pieces in there, the last packet I got was full of nice cuts of bacon, not much fat either.

So, who else loves bacon? And where can we find a good deal?!

Maybe a steak thread would work too!

Just came by to say that bacon is really awesome.

  • Sorry can't really help with NZ bacon prices. Woolworths here often has half price bacon at the deli so it's about $8/kg.

However, I've recently discovered English style bacon which was a seasonal special at Aldi in Australia. It was awesome - much smokier and tastier than the usual Woolworths deli bacon. The regular Aldi prepacked bacon is good too, but not as good as the English stuff. I hope Aldi will stock it again soon. (I also hope Aldi will arrive at NZ too!!)

At the risk of going off-topic, here's an awesome recipe for bacon, egg and leek pie. Mmmm.

    • I haven't tried English bacon, might have to sniff some out next time I'm looking.

Yea, I for one, am looking out for Aldi in NZ and it'd never be too late!

Unfortunately Ange in gluten free, so we have to eat alot of broken food, but one B&E pie recipe I would suggest would be my great grandmas, I've never found anything come close to it. I don't know it though!

Back on topic, I found some $6.95/KG at the same Pak n' Save Petone, although it's not as nice as the $8.95/KG stuff.
