Consumer Affairs Protection - Repair/Replacement Just outside Warranty???

UPDATE:

Hey everyone - I never got a reply from sony, but Noel Leeming said to bring them into a store. Brought them in Monday and they contacted sony for me, picked up a brand new replacement pair Tuesday! Really happy with the outcome and service from Noel Leeming and Sony! Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, I bought the sony ZX770BN from Noelleeming in Feb 2016 Link.

They have a 1 year warranty and retail for $330NZD on the sony nz website (I paid less than a third of that though). They have broken today mechanically (ear cup swivel bit) through no fault of my own (no misuse etc, not even a scratch on them!) and are currently 47 days out of warranty (48 tomorrow when I can call anyone).

Do I have any rights to a repair or replacement under nz consumer protection law? Sony is meant to be a reputable brand, and the product is mid to high range in their lineup? Who should I talk to, Noel Leeming, Sony, or NZ consumer affairs?

Cheers.

Try your luck with Noel Leeming first, you might find yourself surprised with their service. I know I've had repairs when my items have been a month or so out, just depends who you get on the day.
I know when I worked in retail if there was no wiggleroom I would offer to call the manufacture on behalf of my customer.

As for your rights, I'm unsure. I wouldn't get defensive until I know they are unwilling to work with me.

"The Consumer Guarantees Act says that products have to be durable, based on what a reasonable person would expect" -As you paid more than the average pair of headphones, technically you would expect it to last a bit longer than 13 months.

Then again, I've had headphones declined by retailers because it appeared I had done physical damage. I took the repair cost and didn't push them, because I couldn't be sure someone around me hadn't done it.

    Goodluck!
