I don't know anything about XLR microphone. You just need a DAC to connect it to your PC, I've got a SMSL SU-8.
It's an amplifier, not a DAC. It takes the A and makes it into a bigger A and pays no heed to the D.
The DAC is the small box sitting on top in the last picture.
You'd either go from 3.5mm from your trash DAC on the motherboard, or go via an actual DAC connected however it connects (probably USB or PCI-E.
Unsure on the second.
This is a headphone amplifier only so its not a DAC.
1) If you get this, to connect to your PC, you would require a RCA coax to 3.5mm audio cable.
2) The XLR is for headphones not an audio interface for microphone.
All PC's have a DAC in it so it just depends if you really need a DAC.
A DAC just processes the audio so a good one should supposedly give you better sound quality since most people say the DAC on pc is low quality.
A seperate DAC would also mean you get more input options. USB from pc to DAC, or optical from pc to DAC, then you just use RCA or XLR from DAC to amplifier.
Only more expensive DAC will have an XLR output so if thats what you are looking for, then you would have to pay more for it.
Why would you get something like this over an interface with built in high quality headphone amps like a Motu/audient/SSL/focusrite/uad ? Seems like a bit more money for a whole lot more features.
I'm a bit of a DAC noob but in the market for one.
Could someone help me answer these questions:
1) How do you connect this to your PC?
2) Can you use an XLR microphone and the Headphone at the same time?
