Car Insurance providers

Hi i'm looking at insurance for vehicles.
Anyone you recommend/would avoid?

I have family members who use AA Insurance and I know they offer Discounts based on length of Membership
The website states that once you’ve been a Member for 10 or more years consecutively you also receive unlimited Roadservice call outs which i think is pretty good.

Thanks in advance

Recommend you look at MAS (Medical Assurance Society). Available to all professionals not just medical related field.

When I had an accident it was a seemless repair with nil hold up. The panel beater I chose said they are a top firm to deal with on the same level as the police union insurance. He said the likes of AMI/state argue on all the bits like the paint he uses, even down to the filler to try and save costs.

    Just my 2 cents.

(Also they are only 1 of 2 insurance firms in NZ that still do area replacement for house insurance.

      • For a 2014 mazda 3 and a 2010 Mazda 6 the monthly premium for both was half compared to AMI for point of reference and State and AA were more again compared to AMI.

Absolutely, professional is a very loose term. Basically anyone employed unemployed or retired now. They changed from being invite only to anyone applying several years ago.

Worth getting a free no obligation quote from then and considering them.

    • I'm an insurance broker & I can vouch for MAS as well. They're a mutual as well, meaning profits go back into the business. I can also vouch for STAR insurance, but they can be quite selective on the vehicles they insure but have very good policies. I believe AA insurance would be quite good as well as they're underwritten by Vero. I would avoid State & AMI at all costs. They're cheap but their policy wordings are not up to scratch.

I'd definitely recommend Cove - they're fully online, and you get discounts based on how often you use your car per week. I only use mine in the weekend, so wit was significantly cheaper than other providers. I have an embarrassingly large excel spreadsheet comparing all the providers I could find… have never heard of the medical one mentioned above, though.

    • with Cove here too - no issues this far, Customer service is outstanding. Havent used them to claim anything yet knock on wood First month free. Month to Month option. Kiwi owned.

First time hearing about the Medical one too, but intrigued
